More Age Verification

As of 24 Sept 2026 Discord now requires age verification.

If using a device such as phone, tablet or notebook, the built in camera can be used for facial ID. If this is not enough or the option is not available, you will need to provide scans of ID Verification.

If you open Discord, go to User settings > account status, you can see your current age group.

Windows computers will also require age verification but depending on your location as to what date. In USA some states start Jan 2027, Jan 2028 or some July 2028.

In Australia this started Rolling out August 2026 but will take some time.

Methods: Email-based verification, facial age estimation via secure selfie, credit card, or government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license or passport).

This information will be shared with Google / Apple / Microsoft stores and limit what you can view install or download.

Microsoft No longer sending TXT Messages

Microsoft has discontinued SMS and voice authentication because these methods are no longer considered secure. It is moving to passkey authentication, which requires a mobile phone or a computer signed in to a Microsoft account, to verify your identity.

September 1, 2026 — Users enabled for SMS or voice are automatically enabled for passkeys and will be nudged to register a passkey when they next complete MFA.

After February 1, 2027 — Users whose only available MFA method is SMS or voice will receive a blocking prompt to register a passkey before they can continue signing in. There is no opt out from this enforcement; it applies to all tenants.
